Course detail                        Description

Course summary This qualification is designed for adults looking for foundation skills for life and/or pre vocation employment skills. It is designed to provide such learners with practical knowledge, skills, behaviours and processes that will enable them to make vocational choices and enhance their opportunities to participate in work (paid or unpaid).

The course is designed to provide learners with practical knowledge, skills, behaviours and processes that will enable them to develop life-skills in a range of areas. The courses address core personal development and work-related competencies and can be used as a bridging course for students to progress into other programs if appropriate (e.g. a student may do the ALP Cooking class for a year, to then progress into the Certificate II in Hospitality). Students may participate in one or more of the following courses: Personal Development/Communication Skills, Cooking, Computers and Art. Participants may exit the course at their discretion. Participation and completion of each unit will be issued with a statement of attainment. Open employment may not be suitable for all students; however, learners who complete selected courses will have developed skills to potentially participate in a range of work options, e.g. supported employment or unpaid work.

Students may be supported by a support worker or attended independently.

Entry requirements There will be no minimum entry requirements for this course. Prior to commencement of the course participants will need to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment (LLN) this informs the course supervisor of their needs for adaptive and/or augmentative equipment to enable reasonable adjustments to be made for each learner to participate in the learning.

All student need to undertake a Pre-Training and Assessment interview to determine the course best suited to the individual's needs.



Career possibilities Participants may exit the course at their discretion. Open employment may not be suitable. However, learners who complete selected units from the course will have developed skills to participate in a range of work options eg supported employment, work units, or unpaid work.
